With the first round of the 75th annual NFL Draft in the books, now comes the long process of evaluating and re-evaluating the picks, deciding who played it smart, and who walked away looking foolish.
Perhaps the biggest story from the first round was the surprising move by the Denver Broncos to select Florida QB Tim Tebow in the first round. Many sportsbook cappers had picked Tebow to go in the second, or even third round of the draft. While many have criticized the pick, others have lauded it. Still, one has to wonder if taking Tebow over Colt McCoy will pay off for the Broncos.
The number one pick overall was no surprise. Former University of Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford was picked number one by the St. Louis Rams. There were tears from Gerald McCoy when he was picked number three overall by Tampa Bay. The future star lamented that his mother did not live to see his big moment.
Besides the Denver Broncos, fans of sports betting know that the other big winners coming out of the first round are the Detroit Lions. The Lions managed to scoop up the very highly touted Ndamukong Suh in the first round, certainly a move for the club in the right direction. Suh almost immediately gives the Lions a tremendous defensive boost. But Detroit wasn't finished there.
The Lions made some savvy moves, acquiring the 30th pick from the Minnesota Vikings. They would use that pick to snap up Jahvid Best from the California Golden Bears. The move means Detroit has more options when it comes to offense, and, once Pettigrew can get healthy, the team will have some serious tools to utilize.
